We aim to provide marginalized teenage boys and girls with bikes they can use to go to school with, run errands, fitness/exercise, to participate in races, help reduce stress and improve mental health. We first have classes where we teach life skills lessons with various topics that we discuss such as self-identity, obedience, respect, relationships, career choices and many more. We also talk about taboo topics like sexual reproductive health in an easy and friendly way.
The classes help us identify teens who we give the bikes first as we want them to work for it not just get a free gift. Basically we are teaching them some of life’s lesson about working hard and smart. We aim to give at least one bicycle per home as a beginning before we give out more for at least one per teen. They will also get a helmet, reflector, gloves for riding and goggles to prevent dust and sand from impairing vision.
Cycling will also help reduce the teens raging hormones as they will be active and get tired after riding hence, it will help tackle the problem of teen pregnancies. Most of the cases of teenage pregnancy in Kilifi are teenage boys impregnanting teenage girls due to idleness, boredom, adventure, and lack of sex education due to dropping out of school, truancy and others.
So far we have given out six bikes to deserving teenagers. We need your help to get more marginalized teens on bikes. If you have an idle bike please reach out to donate. You will help change a life for the better.
