Advocacy

Here is an overview of the advocacy work we do;
 Frontrunner in advocating for cycling safety and safe roads in the Coast region and Kenya. We advocated in partnership with other cycling stakeholders for Mombasa County Government, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) and Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) to have cycling lanes included in new road designs and we scored a win when the recently launched Makupa Causeway and bridge had cycling lanes included!
 We do collaborations with Coastal County governments, Kenya Traffic police and other cycling groups and stakeholders such as Critical Mass Mombasa, Franyo Youth Group, Kilifi Ultimate Riders and Shanzu Fitness and Duathlon Limited to hold monthly awareness rides to encourage cycling in various towns, have Car Free Days rides and races.
 We do advocacy for cycling to be embraced to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles and encourage cleaner environments, especially with the high cost of fuel and living in Kenya . We have been successful to induct many new riders into cycling and helping them learn traffic rules. We normally escort new riders for up to a week on the roads to teach, make them adopt and feel safe.
 We advocate for safety for cyclists starting by ourselves by ensuring we put on helmets, put on reflective cycling gear, reflectors and lights and horns on our bikes. Mombasa County has a lot of commuter riders who disregard traffic rules and have no reflective gear so we hold awareness rides and also as we ride we educate them on the road. Currently if one rides in Coastal region you will see many commuters with at least a reflector and helmet or lights.
 We also do peace and environmental advocacy and use our bikes to spread the message of peace. We have planted trees and done seed broadcasting in several schools and areas in Coast region.
Period poverty advocacy is at the core of our work. We advocate for sanitary pads to be distributed to marginalized girls and communities and for taxes on sanitary pads products to be scrapped to ease access for all women and girls.
